Goodman and Amana furnace and AC age by serial number

Reviewed 2 primary sourcesSee sources

Goodman’s warranties spell out the date code: the first two digits of the serial are the year and the next two the month. Goodman uses that date to start the warranty when the installation date can’t be shown.

Covers: Goodman gas furnaces covered by Goodman’s furnace warranty (including GMSS96, GMEC96, GMVC96 and GMVM97 families) and Amana-brand packaged terminal units that use the same four-digit date code.

Year + monthserials that start with four digits
Goodman doesn’t say when this layout began or give the century; its example is from 2013, so we read the year as 20YY. A unit made before 2000 in an older layout would be misread.[1]
